Author Kathy Kacer Visit! 作者凯西·卡瑟来访!

Dear parents and guardians,
On May 8th our Grade 6 students will have the privilege of being an audience to a published author who will visit Rick Hansen P.S.  The guest speaker (Kathy Kacer) is an author of the book “To Hope and Back - The Journey of the St. Louis."  This author visit will support the Grade 6 Holocaust Education curriculum through her discussion of the connections in her book to the Holocaust and to Canada and human rights issues.
Kathy Kacer has won many awards for her writing, including the Silver Birch, the Red Maple, the Hackmatack, and the Jewish Book Award. In 1999 she wrote her first book in Second Story Press' Holocaust Remembrance Series for Young Readers, The Secret of Gabi's Dresser. Since then she has penned over 25 other books for young readers.

 A former psychologist, Kathy now travels the world speaking about her books and the need to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive. She also addresses adults about how to teach sensitive material to young children. Kathy Kacer lives in Toronto.

Kathy Kacer's speaking tour is fully sponsored by the organization Liberation75 at no cost to educators or schools.

5月8日,我校六年级学生将有幸聆听一位出版作家莅临里克·汉森小学。这位演讲嘉宾(凯西·卡瑟)是《希望之旅——圣路易斯号的旅程》一书的作者。此次作家来访将通过她对书中与大屠杀、加拿大以及人权问题的联系的探讨,为六年级的大屠杀教育课程提供支持。

凯西·卡瑟曾荣获多项文学奖项,包括银桦奖、红枫奖、哈克马塔克奖和犹太图书奖。1999年,她为第二故事出版社的青少年大屠杀纪念系列丛书创作了第一部作品《加比的梳妆台的秘密》。此后,她又为青少年读者创作了25余部作品。

Visual Arts:
-Worked on perspective art with exploring structures. Due next Wednesday, April 22nd. ***PLEASE START TO COLLECT RECYCLED MATERIALS FOR OUR NEXT ART PROJECT (examples: egg cartons, drink boxes, cardboard food containers , plastic bottles...all should be empty and clean)***.

Health:

-Continued our discussion on Healthy Relationships. Complete the prompt on the Google Classroom post and we will continue the discussion next week. 

Drama/Dance:
-Inclusion role plays presented.
